Frequently Asked Questions
-
School of Sociability is for kids and teens who would benefit from extra support building confidence, navigating social situations, and developing stronger relationships. We work with students who may find conversations, friendships, group dynamics, social cues, disagreements, or everyday social situations challenging.
-
We work with kids and teens ages 8–18. Coaching is adapted to the student’s age, strengths, goals, and stage of social development.
-
No. A formal diagnosis is not required. We begin by understanding your child's individual strengths, social challenges and goals, then consider what kind of support may be appropriate. If you're unsure whether SSOC is a good fit, a Discovery Session is the best place to start.
-
Start by booking a Discovery Session. You’ll meet one-on-one with our team, tell us about your child, discuss their goals, and receive a recommended path forward. There is no commitment to continue after the session.
-
A Discovery Session is a one-on-one conversation with our Program Coordinator about your child’s strengths, social challenges, and goals. It gives you a chance to ask questions, learn more about SSOC’s approach, and understand which program or next step may be the best fit for your child.

STARS is our signature social skills framework and structured 12-session online coaching program. It focuses on Self-Awareness, Thoughtful Communication, Adaptive Thinking, Respect, and Successful Relationships, helping students strengthen communication, perspective-taking, flexible thinking, confidence, and relationship skills.
-
The ABC Method stands for Awareness, Build, Connect. Awareness helps students better understand themselves, others, and social situations. Build focuses on learning and practising specific social skills with structure and encouragement. Connect helps students apply those skills to real conversations, friendships, and everyday situations. In simple terms, ABC is how we teach, while STARS is what we teach.
-
Sessions take place online and combine personalized instruction, conversation, guided practice, reflection, and practical exercises. Students work on skills they can use in real situations rather than simply learning about social skills in theory. The goal is to help students understand a skill, practise it, and gradually apply it with greater confidence in everyday life.
-
Coaching is tailored to each student’s strengths, challenges, goals, and current stage of social development. In STARS, each session is built around a custom lesson plan, and students work with the same coach throughout the semester so the program can build on their progress over time.
-
Parents and guardians are important partners in their child’s progress, while students are also given space to build confidence and independence. Families receive progress information through session summaries, individualized progress reports, and check-in meetings. Parent participation during coaching sessions is generally not required unless specifically arranged.
-
One STARS semester includes 12 sessions over six weeks, with sessions held twice per week. Students work with the same coach throughout the semester, and two Review Sessions are included to help families stay informed about progress and next steps.
-
The current STARS semester is US$1,050 for 12 sessions, and a Discovery Session is US$50. The STARS semester also includes two Review Sessions.
-
Because sessions are online, your child needs a stable internet connection, access to Zoom, and a desktop or laptop computer. Phones and tablets are not considered suitable for the type of instruction provided. Families should also test the internet connection, microphone, and speakers before sessions begin.
-
That is exactly what the Discovery Session is for. You do not need to know which program your child needs before reaching out. We’ll learn about your child, talk through what you have been noticing, answer your questions, and help you decide whether SSOC is an appropriate fit and what the next step could look like.
-
Progress is tracked throughout the STARS semester using the STARS framework and each student's individual goals. Families receive session summaries and individualized progress information, and two Review Sessions are included to discuss progress, challenges and next steps.
